GUIUAN, E. SAMAR. The upgrading
of the Guiuan Weather Station is underway. The project, a grant of the Japanese
Government involving other Weather Stations around the country has started and
is expected to be completed in about 18 months. The project amounting to P308M
is a grant from the Government of Japan to the Philippines through the Japan
Weather Association under the auspices of the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The
completion of the project is expected to significantly improve the prediction
of intensity of tropical cyclones accurately and within the hour. The
modernization of the facilities, equipments and structure of the Guiuan Weather
Station will greatly enhance the capability of predicting the incidence of rain
and measure its volume. This will have a direct positive impact on the livelihood
of farmers and fishermen in Eastern Visayas.
The
project is being implemented by FF Cruz Construction, and is the third out of
11 Japanese grants around the country. Recently, the Virac Weather Station in
Catanduanes was inaugurated by President Aquino in elaborate ceremonies in
Virac. The second project which is also being implemented at present is the
Appari Weather Station in Cagayan.
