GUIUAN, EASTERN SAMAR, Philippines — Funds
worth P22 million for the development of a property intended as a relocation
site in this town is now available.
Mayor Annaliza G. Kwan made this announcement
recently, saying that the local government unit has previously identified a
four-hectare area in Barangay Campoyong for site development by the National
Housing Authority.
“The site has been declared by then President Arroyo
by way of a presidential proclamation. But it is the NHA that is mandated to
undertake socialized housing and in pursuance of its mandate, seeks our active
participation,” Kwan said.
The development of the relocation site will start
this July, she said, adding that the LGU provides the land while the NHA
provides the fund to cover the cost of its development.
Kwan said the LGU then recovers the project cost
from beneficiaries and utilize the proceeds exclusively for project maintenance
or to acquire or develop new resettlement sites.
“Close to 400 houses will be constructed and will be
given to families living in critical areas,” the mayor said.
